Local Artists Take Center Stage in Frederick

Join us at the Visitation Hotel on Saturday, May 2, from 2 PM to 4 PM for an afternoon celebrating local art and creativity. Explore paintings by talented local artists currently displayed throughout the hotel, meet several of the featured artists, and learn about the inspiration behind their work. Enjoy a complimentary champagne toast and light bites as you browse the collection, with original artwork available for purchase in support of our local arts community.

Our featured May artist is Maryland-based Cathy Abramson.Cathy Abramson, a Maryland-based artist, is inspired by the city’s constant fluidity. She captures fleeting moments and examines the hidden layers beneath the surface, infusing her work with an element of mystery. This invites viewers to construct their own narratives, fostering a personal connection with the paintings.

Artist of The Month: Cathy Abramson

Cathy Abramson paints in oils and has been exhibiting in juried solo and group shows throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region for the past 25 years. She has work in many pubic and private collections.

Cathy sees poetry in the ordinary and although she paints particular people and scenes, her local paintings of Washington, DC and surrounds resonate with everyone.

Catherine Christopher

Catherine studied Art Management at The University of Tampa before relocating to New York City, where she began exploring decorative painting and faux finishing.

Her paintings stand out due to the unique materials she uses, and 99% of her works are completed without a single brushstroke. She started her career in decorative painting, working on projects in restaurants and private residences, before moving to Frederick, Maryland, in 2000.

Anne Stine

Anne’s work hangs throughout Virginia in juried shows, art galleries and commercial and personal collections. Anne is an active promoter of the arts and the small business community as a member of the Loudoun Arts Council and Loudoun County Artisan Trail.

She writes a blog centered around inspiring others to pursue their dreams and live a creative life. Anne lives in Purcellville, Virginia, with her husband and three children.

John Aquilino

The urban landscape has been the focus of John Aquilino’s artwork since he moved from New York City to Maryland in 2003.

While living in New York, John was a commercial illustrator and graphic artist for more than 20 years. He is now a full-time professional fine artist working in his Rockville, MD studio. Aquilino exhibits regularly in the Washington, DC region and nationally.

Karen Peacock

Karen Peacock thrives in the creative flow of designing, writing, and making art. She holds a B.A. from the University of Maryland and an M.A. from the University of Baltimore.

With over 15 years of experience running her own graphic design consulting company, Karen has
built a reputation for exceptional design work.

Lori Niland Rounds

Lori is an award-winning artist
specializing in painting and printmaking.

She has received honors from the National Endowment for the Arts/Frederick Arts Council and two grants from the Maryland State Arts Council. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Encaustic Art in Santa Fe, NM.

Leanne Fink

Leanne Fink is an American artist who creates visually dynamic oil paintings that awaken the senses and move the spirit.

She has received numerous awards of excellence for her work. Her art has been included in many juried exhibitions and can be found in both corporate and private collections worldwide. Her studio is in Loudoun County, VA where she also teaches private lessons.

Marion L. Griffin

Marion L. Griffin’s artworks are typically based on acrylic and collage, a combination of handmade and purchased paper, found objects, acrylic paint and mediums, or cold wax and oil.

Born in Cambridge, MA, she moved to Maryland as a child and earned a BS from the University of Maryland and an A masters from American University in Washington, DC.

Sheryl Massaro

Sheryl Massaro is an oil painter,
photographer, potter, and poet based in Frederick, Maryland, where she is active in several arts organizations.

Massaro’s oils and photography have been exhibited in many galleries and museums nationally (solo and juried exhibitions) and are in numerous private collections.

Jenny Wilson

Jenny Wilson is an award-winning artist located in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Her work can be found in art centers and private collections worldwide. Her style is contemporary abstract landscape and
is suited for private residences, hotels, and other businesses. She was a student at the High School of Art and Design in NYC and has a Masters Degree in music.
